My Students

We are special education pre-k students, we are 3, 4 or 5 years old. some of us have autism, others have speech and language disabilities and still others have various disabilities. We attend a title one low income school.

We have various abilities and some amazing strengths, but right now we don't understand why we can't go to school, see our amazing teachers and play with our friends.

We don't understand what social distancing or covid is, this situation doesn't make sense. Many of us don't have the needed supplies at our homes to help us learn. We learn through hands-on experiences and lots of playing. Internet based learning is good, but many of us our so little that we can't work the internet independently and it doesn't really help us learn those social and interactive skills that we need. We need materials that are hands on and sometimes silly but they will help us learn.

My Project

These materials, although they seem disjointed make up so many learning opportunities for my young students. These materials represent hands on learning, STEAM activities, counting, letter naming and letter knowledge, fine motor skills, as well as communication, and turn taking opportunities.

As we are stuck at home, my students are stuck without needed supplies to help them learn during a very crucial time in their learning and development.

They don't understand why on a Friday they went home and now 8 weeks later they are still stuck at home. Supplies such as wikki sticks, pipe cleaners, and stickers will help develop their fine motor skills. Counting dinosaurs, unicorns, and gold fish will help develop their math skills of counting, patterning and sorting. Art supplies will help them with their cognitive development by creating different projects and then communicating with their family members and teacher about what they made.
