Help me give my students durable headphones that will enable us to use technology more effectively! Students can use these headphones to listen to stories read aloud online or add their own videos to their portfolios on Seesaw.
I teach reading and language arts to three classes of curious, compassionate, and creative fourth graders. Teaching 75 students means that I encounter a wide variety of needs in my classroom, from reluctant readers who need support to bonafide bookworms who need more of a challenge.
Our classroom has become a place where we read challenging texts, explore visual art, and engage in thoughtful discussions.
It is a place where every voice is heard. And the students respond to that sense of community, they pick up on my excitement and my love of reading, and they are genuinely interested and motivated to put in the work to become better readers and writers.
My Project
We use technology on a regular basis in reading class. And while we ask students to provide their own headphones, this is not always possible for students with limited resources.
Having a class set of quality, durable headphones will enable my students to access technology in school more efficiently and effectively.
We use the online portfolio program, Seesaw, to showcase our fabulous work. Students enjoy recording captions for their photos and creating videos of their fluent reading. These over-ear headphones have a built-in microphone that will allow my students to record their work clearly with minimal background noise.
Students also love to read along with stories on Epic books. This program is fantastic for struggling readers, as they can follow along with a fluent reading of a text that they may not be able to read independently. This resource is only useful if students have quality headphones to listen with.
Some of my struggling writers find it easier to use the "speech-to-type" option on Google Docs when they are writing paragraphs and essays. The built-in microphone will make this process easier and help my students develop more confidence as writers.
This class set of headphones will be an incredible asset to the learning environment in reading class!
