My students need to hydrate throughout the day! We have an amazing filtered water fountain in our school, and I believe water is a necessity. It helps everybody focus and behave!
I feel privileged to work with an extremely diverse groups of students every day who despite the daily challenges in their lives come to school eager and excited to learn. Many of my students are refugees and first generation US citizen who are not only trying to learn the complex topics covered in 5th grade but are also trying to learn and adapt to the way of life in the United States.
Everyday is an opportunity to learn, grow and explore something new!
My students embrace the opportunity to learn new things every day and I want to provide them with the materials to explore diverse cultures, and engage in hands on, engaging instruction in math and science.
My Project
Hydration is the key to success! Let me tell you the words I hear constantly, "Can I get a drink?". I encourage water and allow water bottles in class, but most of mine do not have one to bring. I want drinking water to be something that they always have available, but I don't want them constantly asking to leave the classroom. It is disruptive. I don't like saying, "no" because they are thirsty and don't drink enough throughout the day! Right now, our rooms are hot and stuffy, so they recognize their thirst more frequently.
"Be the change you want to see in the world." Plastic water bottles go against all of my beliefs, and have preached the fatal consequences of plastic waste to my students.
I want my students to be ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious because they can help others make a positive change. My fifth graders and I have been very committed to learning how to take better care of our planet. We have focused on the fact that plastic waste is killing our animals and destroying our ecosystems. I want to provide my students with water bottles that promote healthy choices for them and our planet, Earth!
