Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a mix of students in every sense of the word. I have students who are special education, general education, English learners, and have social-emotional disorders. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students go home to little academic support or resources because they come from single-parent households, their parents are working multiple jobs or second and third shifts at work, and in some extreme cases are living in shelters or temporary housing. For most, being in school is what they look forward to.
My students do not let these disadvantages get in their way.
They are enthusiastic learners who work hard and persevere! They want to learn and succeed but need the tools to do so. They brighten my day by saying "I missed you!" after each vacation and by coming back to visit me the following year. And at the end of class saying "That was fun." I want to give them the best education I can by fostering their enthusiasm for learning while having fun!
My Project
My great-grandmother would always say as we were leaving "Happy and healthy! Happy and healthy!" Those words ring in my head now that I am an adult with my students. We share a lot in our classroom from the tables we work at, to our personal whiteboards, to laptops and board games. Germs can spread and we could easily get sick.
Attendance Matters!
One way that I can do my part to keep my students coming to school is provide a clean and healthy classroom. We are in need of hand sanitizer and tissues so we can have clean hands and noses without leaving the room. We are in need of Clorox wipes to keep our shared spaces clean every day! We are in need of whiteboard and laptop wipes to clean after each use. Our classroom will be a clean and sanitized place for learning.
