Our school provides a rigorous college preparatory education that equips and empowers students for success in college and in life. We welcome all students, including those living with emotional, physical, or other structural disadvantaging factors, such as gender, race, or poverty. We opened in 2009 with our first 6th-grade class and graduated our first 12th-grade class in 2016. In 2016, we expanded our school community to include 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grades.
Our school seeks to foster hope and confidence in all students, and in 2017 we started our very first elementary school chorus program.
Chorus class offers a powerful, positive connection to the school. Placement into the chorus program can truly change a student's life. Singing in the chorus is therapeutic, and our trips to entertain at local nursing homes provide children the ability to give back to the community in a meaningful, wonderful way!
The elementary students are picked for the program based on cooperation, school progress, and they have the ability to make-up any schoolwork missed by attending practice sessions and trips to local nursing homes for performances.
My Project
This is my first year teaching at this school. My students love singing in the chorus. We are rehearsing for our next trip to a local nursing home, performance at our school gala, our second concert at our school and our 5th-grade Moving On Ceremony.
Currently, we have a keyboard that I balance on a student desk, that has built-in speakers.
Our students could benefit from a karaoke machine to amplify their voices, an amplifier for the keyboard, and I could surely use a stand for the keyboard. We will be able to use this equipment as we travel to local nursing homes. Our students will appreciate these gifts and will feel supported by whoever donates to this project.
We would appreciate any help you can give, so we can continue to grow our program. Thank you for your support!
