I teach kindergarten to 26 of the sweetest, most loving, caring, and smartest 5-year-old kids. They love coming to school to learn and to be part of something special. I strive to make each day the best ever.
My favorite thing about teaching kindergarten is that every day is a new day, and they are so full of wonder!
I teach at the same school I attended as a child. Every year, I am given the best class, and this year is no exception! I call them my Rockstars, and I hope that they know how much I love having them in my class!
I am requesting a variety of Math materials for my class to use on a daily basis to get hands-on use. I am requesting counters, a balance, dominoes, sorting objects, dice, cards, magnetic math resources, a pocket chart for graphing, and games. All of these materials will be used in small group daily math lessons and will be available for the children to have access to each day.
Children need to touch in order to understand!
This is so true for so many children! As babies, children need to touch the world around them in order for it to make sense. This is still true when they are 5! It is important for them to be able to touch and explore in order to make sense of Math.
The materials I am requesting will help them to do just that! I want them to be able to use the counters when counting or sorting. They can use the balance to explore while they are learning about more, less, and weight. The cards and games will be used to teach them games so that they can “play” while they learn about numbers, the same, more, less and different. The dominoes will be used to teach them about counting and the traditional game of dominoes. We will make weekly graphs and pose questions that the class can answer as a warm up. The sorting materials will be used to sort, count, and make patterns. This project will help my Kindergarten class use concrete objects in their daily Math routine.
