My students need kinesthetic ways to develop their fine motor skills and practice their handwriting with a set of gel writing boards, a fine motor skills set, and four letter formation trays.
Each and every day we take for granted our ability to see, hear, move, feel and think. Not having one of of these abilities can make life and the human experience very difficult and frustrating. My students need extra help in order to fully access their potentials.
My students range from 3-5 years old and are faced with an array of disabilities such as Down's Syndrome and Autism.
They live in a large urban area and attend a school where 95% of the kids are in the free and reduced lunch program. Despite all their challenges, they bring joy and hope to the world every day by smiling, learning and discovering. They make me so happy and proud to be a teacher!
My Project
The fine motor tools, gel writing boards and letter forming sand trays will help our students develop their fine-motor skills and therefore their handwriting in a way that is developmentally appropriate for their age and ability levels. Our students will develop different muscles in their fingers and hands, leading them to learn how to express themselves through written communication.
Fine motor development and handwriting are an important life-skill needed by all in order to perform in academic situations and day-to-day activities.
Improved fine motor skills lead to success in school, success in the job market and independent living.
