My school encompasses a diverse population of both ethnic and economic backgrounds. My students are hearing students learning American Sign Language as their World Language.
My ASL program is a community within itself that supports each other, promotes everyones differences and encourages everyone to do their best.
My classes cover 170 students, grades 9-12, each day. 65 students are learning ASL and about Deaf Culture for the first time while others have been in the program for 4 years, are in ASL Honors, and are involved within our local Deaf community. Being the only ASL teacher at our school I am fortunate that I get to teach these young adults everyday and see their love for a language grow.
My Project
I am asking for charging stations because we all know how reliant teenagers are on their phones. I stress a NO PHONE policy in class, but unfortunately it does not always work. Phone charging stations will provide a safe place for my students to charge/house their phones while they are in class.
Charging station will allow my students to be distraction free and able to engage in learning ASL by having good eye contact and "free" hands to sign.
The CD/DVD player along with the projector will give me additional tools to teach my multi-level classes at one time. My curriculum is visual and is DVD based, students need to watch videos as part of their learning. Having a projector and CD/DVD player will help support student learning.
