Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It’s the start of our school year. Even though it’s the first week, I can already see students' distinct personalities and learning styles show. For example, there is a student who has to move, be it standing or fidgeting with his pencil sharpener or even jumping in place. I also have a student who is already showing avoidance behavior when it comes to writing. I need to definitely work closely with him to build his confidence and find ways to make writing engaging and get him excited to learn. My class needs multiple ways to write and create writing pieces that are fun and engaging!
My Project
Writing is a challenge for many young writers. I love to look for ways to motivate and make writing fun! One way, is to use hands on themed writing activities where students use colored copy paper to create projects! For example, we start the school year with Writing Boot Camp where students brainstorm ideas for a 3rd Grade Survivor Guide book onto different colored dog tags! I also copy activities onto colored copy paper that matches every writing theme that we will work on throughout the school year! This has really motivated my struggling writers to put in the extra effort in to improve their writing skills and take pride in their writing!
