Help me give my students materials needed to visually explain and understand the mathematical concept of fractions. I will be using the Cricut Explore to make hands on manipulatives to help teach basic math skills including fractions.
I work in a 3rd grade inclusion classroom at a Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school. Many of our students often struggle on a daily basis. They come from rough homes. Many of my students do not have access to manipulatives, games, or even a space to do homework at home. They rely on school for all of their needs. Despite all their challenges, these students are incredible and want to learn! The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, following directions, and accessing general education content in a way that meets all learners. We celebrate our differences and build each other up!
These materials will help students visualize the concept of fractions. Students often need a hands on approach to this concept. I decided on resources that will help me explain to my students what a whole looks like, part of a whole is, and what each fractional part represents. These resources are vital to my students' success in mathematics. Due to lack of supplies and funding, students don't receive the opportunity to complete activities and games that will help them understand this skill. Making the activities and resources that meet the needs of all my students will aid in their mastery of this standard.
