Hands On With Anatomy And Physiology - UTAH Grant

Help me give my students the opportunity to get back into hands on Science labs with microscopes and anatomy! So much of of Covid has been simulations, it is exciting to get back into hands on labs!

My Students

These students are excited to be back in the classroom even though it will look a little differently this year. These students are excited to be doing as much of hands on activity as much as possible. They are teachable, excited, willing to learn, inclusive, loyal and trustworthy.

My Project

Throughout Covid our students have had to focus on digital simulations and digital worksheets to get through the Semester. While those can be meaningful if prepared correctly, students oftentimes to do not respond well or remember the material if it just seems like busy work. As we work to move past Covid, I find that I am beginning to bring back the hands on labs that our students not only enjoy, but need if they are going to get a good grasp of our scientific concepts like Human Anatomy and Physiology.

The purpose of this grant is simple, to give students additional access to my histology microscope slides, cross sections of the Human Body, and even a working EKG for our students to study each others cardiac rhythms.

These labs are part of assignments and labs that I am already doing in some form, but this will allow me to expand on the materials that I have been using with Covid and simulations for the last few years. Its time students get the microscopes out, and start using real-world tech to learn about their own body!

To summarize the materials and labs I will be able to do with these materials, I have provided that information below:

-Histology Labs (Students can study microscopic sections of body organs to identify illness as well as structure/function of tissues)

-Working together in teams, students can identify (with manipulable models) body parts and names according to medical terminology

-Using the EKG, students will be able to check their own heartbeat and understand the rhythmic patterns associated with those
