My students enjoy learning Social Studies because I bring history to life using technology, simulations, hands-on activities, Socratic discussion, and many, many primary sources. I've taught junior high for over two decades and love working with students this age.
My students enjoy using the trunks of hands-on war materials that I've created for each war.
They also love to learn from my simulations what it was like to work in a Ford Model-T factory or live during the Great Depression.
We would like to create a trunk of items for each war that the kids could use as a hands-on resource to learn about the war. Because most of our wars were fought so long ago it is difficult to bring to life for students. We used a Civil War trunk for similar reasons and it has been a huge success. We would like to do the same thing for all the wars. While the combined items are costly, they will impact hundreds of students over many years. Printing would be minimal due to our Chromebooks and items would be laminated or placed in sheet protectors as class sets vs. printing for each student every year. All items would get used until they fall apart as students will always enjoy hands-on activities.
