An old proverb says, "Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I'll remember. Involve me and I'll understand." This quote gets to the heart of what we are trying to accomplish with this grant. Providing some hands on activities where students will build and learn from their own creations.
Our district has begun a new STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiative to prepare students for jobs of the future.
All students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade come to the STEM lab one time every week. During our time, students are working together on projects and solving problems. The students are curious, inquisitive and love learning about STEM.
My Project
The K'NEX Forces, Energy & Motion Racer Set curriculum is organized as a series of objectives achieved through classroom discussion and laboratory exercises. Students investigate potential and kinetic energy, and identify the differences between energy associated with position and condition. The Forces, Energy and Motion set offers an exciting, hands-on opportunity to address fundamental physical science concepts.
Your donation to our project will make such a huge difference in the education of these students.
By completing the activities, they will learn and see how force and motion play an important part in their lives. The teamwork that goes into building the models will develop important skills they will need for the future. You will also be helping students who may not be successful in a traditional classroom setting succeed and experience a sense of pride and accomplishment that has been missing.
