My students need hands on manipulatives such as Magna Tiles and Design Blocks to aid in our STEM learning. Having these items will enhance our learning experiences in the classroom. These manipulatives will give my students opportunities to develop interests in new areas.
Our school is a small rural school. Families here are very low income families. Our school is actually surrounded by cornfields and families have to travel to the next town to get things like groceries or clothes. Despite these challenges our students thrive and go on to become very successful adults. But in order to become successful, we have supply needs and monetary needs to be met outside of school funding.
I would love to use these items to make STEM bins for my students.
Having hands on, fun things for my students is very important to me and to the quality of their learning.
My Project
We are requesting Magna-tiles, Design Blocks, a blocks learning center and I Can Build It! Architecture set. This project will allow my Second graders to have hands on fun while learning at the same time! It will give them experiences that they can't get from a text book or electronics. For example, these manipulatives will allow them to explore areas like design and construction.
The items I have chosen include small pieces for building things, but not regular blocks like most students have played with.
One item even gives students a chance to build a house! I want to turn these items into STEM bins that they can grab when they are finished with their work or have down time like in the morning before school begins. It will allow them to be creative and learn to think outside the box. I hope these items will encourage them to seek out new ways to be creative while learning. It might even spark something in them that will lead them to a future career! With your help, I will be able to open a new door for my students!
