Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My group of students are true heroes! They are 3rd graders who are learning two languages and are well on their way to becoming biliterate. My classroom is a Spanish Dual Immersion class with a 60/40 model (60% Spanish/40% English). My class is filled with 24 inquisitive and dedicated students who are ready to learn. Day in and out they take responsibility for their learning and focus on mathematics, vocabulary, and language. My goal is to capture their passion for literature and equity, their energy to show up daily and their excitement for learning. Most importantly, I want to capitalize on their skills to succeed. I incorporate different strategies daily to not only engage them but also to increase their inquiry, curiosity and excitement!
My Project
My project includes hands on STEM activities that will allow my students to explore their creativity while also practice engineering. My students are problem solvers with inquisitive minds who surprise me daily. Additionally, fraction bars will help my students have a conceptual understanding of what the concept of fractions is.
Nothing is as impactful as providing students with hands on opportunities to explore difficult concepts.
Organization is also important in creating a safe and inviting environment that is adaptable to hands on activities and exploration. I am certain that the included STEAM and math manipulative will have an impact in cementing key ideas while having fun!
