Hands-on Science

Help me give my students hands-on science materials including digital scales and thermometers, and flashlights. We will be using these materials throughout the year during various science experiments.

My Students

I work at Title I school where about 80% of our students in the school are on free or reduced lunch. My students do not have access to things that I took for granted when I was in elementary school. I believe this should not be an excuse and they should get the same learning opportunities and materials as other students.

I have 25 thoughtful and excitable students in my class.

They are positive and engaged when I introduce new materials into my classroom.

My Project

The digital scales and thermometers will be used monthly during our science experiments. I have requested six of these so that each group can complete the experiment on their own in their group.

Doing these hands-on experiments themselves will give them a better understanding of the science rather than watching me do it.

Not only will these instruments be useful in teaching the science curriculum, but it will give me the opportunity to teach them about science tools and how to treat them. My students will be begging me to use these new tools during our next science experiment.
