My Students

My fifth grade classroom is a place of growth and learning. A high percentage of my students are learning English as a second language and benefit greatly from visual aids and hands-on activities.

The students in my Title I classroom are fifth graders in a rural Utah town.

These students are excited to learn and find joy in the challenge that the learning process can bring. This school year we are focusing on future goals in education and maximizing the potential of each child to achieve great things as they progress through life.

My Project

Science is a subject that has proven to be very difficult for my English language learners. New vocabulary as well as abstract concepts make it hard for these students to visualize what is being discussed in class.

Students who are able to physically interact with science materials are who students who learn to love science.

I am hoping these resources (books, magnetic science kit, and aquarium starter kit) will help my students be able to better learn the science topics we will be covering this year, particularly magnetism, ecosystems, and basic chemistry.

Being able to experiment with these materials and activate senses such as sight, sound, and touch, will help my students so much more than words in a textbook or class discussion alone.
