My Students

Hands-on science should happen in every classroom, every day. I would love to have the children dissect owl pellets to discover all of the animals/plants in an owl's food chain.

My students attend a rural/suburban school in Kentucky.

They come from many different backgrounds. Some live on farms, while most live in subdivisions, and others live in apartments. They are energetic students who have the desire to learn everything they can, and I try to make all of my lessons hands-on.

My Project

With these pellets, the students will be able to dissect them and discover skulls and bones from all of the animals their owl ate. They can then use this to put together a food chain, and not just read about one in a book. If students read, they remember 5%. If they do it, they remember 95%.

This will allow my students to do a hands-on activity that is not within our budget.

I have done it in the past, and it was one of their favorite activities, and the students really learned.
