Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Science to 4 different homogeneously grouped 3rd grade classes. I teach in a Title 1 school that is in a district that is being hit with huge budget cuts. This ultimately affects the ability to provide additional materials to enhance the learning process in my classroom.
The children come to my class with limited science processing skills so to actively engage them in hands on activities to build the knowledge of science skill would benefit them so much more that giving them the book and a paper. The knowledge that the children gain when given the opportunity to do a lab, activity on the board or group work is priceless.
To be able to teach the children the skills with hands on manipulatives allows for them to work in groups, pairs and as a whole class to learn the skills. My students have limited knowledge about science skills, so when they get the opportunity to work in pairs and groups to attain the solution, I try to give it to them. This project will allow me the opportunity to create the skills for the children to come to the board to put together graphic organizers. My students need a Venn Diagram Pocket Chart, a T-Chart Pocket Chart, a Web Organizer Pocket Chart, and a Science Discovery Pocket Chart.
By donating to this project, you will enable the children in my classes to gain the confidence, skills, vocabulary and information needed to be successful science wizards.
