Hands-On Robotics With The Junior Botball Challenge
I need funding to participate in the 2021 Pathfinders Winter Institute: Junior Botball Challenge to increase my computer science knowledge and actively engage my students in hands-on, computer science opportunities!
This year, my Gifted and Talented Program is home to 164 inquisitive minds that are passionate about hands-on learning experiences. We love diving into new topics, identifying questions that require further scientific inquiry and researching to solve our own problems. We are working hard to become better engineers, scientists, mathematicians, artists, authors, and community members. They deserve opportunities to learn computer science and computational thinking skills in a hands-on format, specifically, a hands-on format involving robots!
My Project
This year, I have been accepted into the 2021 Infosys Foundation USA Pathfinders Winter Institute, occurring virtually due to Covid-19, from February 12-15, 2021! This intensive professional development experience for K-12 public school teachers in computer science and maker education will provide me with the necessary training and hands-on knowledge in order to successfully bring Junior Botball back to my students and engage them in this challenging program!
As part of the training, I will receive the curriculum, a robot kit, activity mats, teaching strategies, and everything needed to implement this exciting program with all of my students, no matter their age!
Not only that, but all of the materials are reusable, which means I will be able to create new challenges yearly, allowing students to continually build their computer science knowledge! Please help me bring this new, unique opportunity to my students!
