Hands-on Real World Lab Experience!

Help me give my students real world hands-on experience to what it is like to work in a lab, and the miniPCR Thermal Cycler and blueGel electrophoresis will help students gain that experience!

My Students

My students are amazing! I teach 8th grade in a diverse socio-economic area and this age is inherently inquisitive. They love hands-on projects, but many of the projects we do in class are about specific inquiry into concepts in physical science, biological science, and space science. I would like to expand this learning into real world applications that will set them up to experience what it is like to work in a real lab. Hands-on experience is the way they learn best!

They often will ask questions about how things work in the real world (like COVID testing!), but we lack the equipment needed to explore these situations in a hands-on experience.

My Project

Students will gain hands-on real world experience in different lab procedures used through different labs in Universities and private labs throughout the world. This experience will help students see how science is used in real life, such as COVID testing and genetic testing.

Students learn more when they are exposed to real-life hands-on labs, which makes them more excited about science!

The equipment will help them to see more sophisticated equipment than what is normally in science classrooms. I am hoping this will lead to students interested in STEM careers in the future.
