Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have an amazing high school class (9th-12th) of very active young men and women who all have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
My students are all unique and special just like snowflakes (no two are at the same level or learn the same). However, they do hold a few common bonds: cooking, building, their thirst for knowledge and technology. I am constantly trying different ideas and strategies to help my eager students absorb all they can from our lessons.
My Project
I want to bring our reading to life with hands-on, interactive books and manipulatives. In addition, I want to incorporate sequencing activities through the books we read. These books with manipulatives and sequencing kits will enhance learning by supporting language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills and social skills practice. These hands-on books will help my students that struggle academically by providing a fun way to explore reading.
My students will use these new resources to work on many different academic skills such as language, math, science, social skills, turn taking, fine and gross motor and more all while having a fun reading experience with hands-on manipulatives!
My students will be able to learn, build, create, problem solve, match, sort, classify, hypothesize, write, sequence and increase social emotional skills while using the reading and sequencing kits. Student engagement increases through hands-on learning. These hands-on books and sequencing kits will be available for students during small groups or individual work sessions.
My students will greatly benefit from these amazing resources! Please help me nurture a their love of reading.
