My Project

I am an intervention teacher with 40 sweet, enthusiastic students. My students are kindergartners through third graders, and they represent a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The excitement that lights my students’ faces when they read a new word or are able to effectively utilize a reading strategy is an inspiration for my teaching. My students enjoy engaging, interactive experiences, and my goal is to build their confidence and make reading enjoyable. In our classroom, we practice a growth mindset where everyone understands that they can get smarter and improve skills by practicing and never giving up.

This project is to provide my students with manipulatives and interactive tools to help them become stronger readers.

The LED lamp will be a good light source when we are reading on our carpet in small groups, and the mini whiteboard easels will help both groups make words with magnetic letters, decode words written with markers, and study word families. The wind-up cars/planes, slinky coils, and reading strips will help my students when segmenting and blending words together. The erasable pens and highlighters are so fun for them to use while they are highlighting word parts and writing in their individual decodable books. Finally, the mochi squishies will be used as incentives for reaching reading goals. These materials will keep my students engaged and excited as well as have a huge impact on their learning.
