Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many schools today are cutting enrichment programs in an effort to save money. I was given an opportunity in these tough times to start a robotics class with one small catch...we were given no budget with which to buy materials.
Our robotics class has students from the 6th, 7th and 8th grade.
We are a mix of GATE and general Ed students from a 100% free lunch school.
All students in the robotics class have met their grade level requirements and have volunteered to spend their time learning about engineering and problem solving in our robotics program.
My Project
The robotics curriculum we follow is adapted from Lego Education's Mindstorms robotics program. We have recently received a large donation of multiple sets of the Mindstorms Legos, but we do not have enough computers for the students to use while programming their robots. Each robot needs to be programmed in order to function, and our group currently has access to only a single working laptop. This laptop will allow more students to be simultaneously programming during our meetings, increasing their understanding of programming and problem solving.
This project really will give the students in the robotics program a quality hands on education.
Your donations will help to instill a love of science, technology, and engineering into a group of students who otherwise would have no access to this type of program.
