Help me give my students alphabet manipulatives, composition books, and white boards to help supplement our new phonics program as well as additional supplies to help replenish the classroom!
We are the second largest school in our district that directly impacts our military community along with low income and ESE (Exceptional Students Education) communities. We house grades PK- 8 in our buildings, including the second highest population of special needs children, ESE children, and children who have a father, mother, or both parents in the military. This makes us a population that serves military families and military students. Our school directly impacts the military community it is built around. These demographics make our school a very diverse population.
Our school is also a Title I school, which means the majority of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunches.
Some are displaced while others are homeless. To give these students the opportunities they all deserve, we must provide a quality learning environment. Being Title I, those essentials are few and far between. Our students are bright, they are resilient, and they strive to be the best they know how to be, but they also want to be more than that. It is our responsibility to make those things happen to them no matter what it takes.
My Project
All good readers need basic phonics skills to help them become confident and successful readers. I am a firm believer that a hands-on approach while learning is critical for every learner to gain a full grasp of what they are being taught.
The alphabet manipulatives, white boards, and composition books will be used during both whole group and small group instruction to help master different phases of our new Max Scholar phonics program.
The additional items requested, such as the glue sticks, will help replenish our supply so children have the necessarily materials for the day. The portable lap desks will be utilized in small group settings as an additional seating options are given to the students.
