Help me give my students every opportunity to learn reading and writing in a fun and systemic way using a multi-sensory approach. The sand and sand trays will be use for a kinesthetic approach to learning spelling patterns.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I plan to use the sand and sand trays as one component to the kinesthetic aspect of learning. The feel of the sand will help them remember the letters and the sounds that they make. In the same way, they will use the screens to "feel" the letters. Once they have written them with the red crayons, they trace them feeling the bumps that the screens create. The students will use the craft sticks to hold a visual clue for short vowels. The index cards will be used as a visual and auditory component for pounding out syllables and tapping out sounds.
Using a multi-sensory approach to phonics will make sure that my students are engaged and eager to learn.
They will be able to visually, auditorily and kinesthetically learn how to read and write in a way that is proven to be effective.
