Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The 5 and 6 year olds that make up my class come from very diverse backgrounds. Some come from two parent households, some come from households with only one parent that may be working more than one job.
My kiddos need a chance to learn how to play together.
For many of them, the time spent outside the classroom is spent in front of some electronic device. I want to give them time to play and learn the art of cooperation by working with their classmates.
My Project
We need Legos, Play Dough, Magna Tiles and more to fill their morning bins! The materials provided in this project will be used by my first graders each morning. The plan is to have 4-6 bins of rotating materials that my students will have access to each morning.
The hope is that each child has the opportunity to create, build, imagine, and laugh!
This will allow them to access and manipulate the curriculum in a nonthreatening way. They will have chances to learn from their mistakes, overcome challenges and learn the lessons that playing can teach!
Each morning the children will find a bin on their table. The children need to work together to share the items in the bin. It will be up to them if their creation will be something they work on independently or together. Some bins and items will have specific tasks the children need to complete. Others will be open and allow the children to
These materials will also be used in our weekly enrichment activities. Each Friday our school offers children a variety of activities to choose from. I am going to offer first graders the opportunity to do some STEM and STEAM projects based on story books. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. STEAM projects will add Art to the project.
