My students are deaf and hard-of-hearing and come from a variety of different backgrounds. While most students communicate using American Sign Language, we also have students that prefer to use English. The students love to get involved in different projects and do well with hands-on learning.
My students jump at the chance to experience learning via experience.
Many of the students have language or reading difficulties due to their hearing loss. This can impact their learning in all subject areas. The best way for them to learn science is to be able to see and do activities related to what we are learning.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of hands-on science kits that can be used with my chemistry and biology classes. These kits will provide the materials and instructions necessary to help my students with difficult concepts.
Hands-on activities are the key to my students comprehending science concepts.
They excel when they are engaged by doing something related to the idea they are learning. Once an activity is completed, they are much more competent when discussing the content. In addition, these kits will lead my students through inquiry activities that will require them to think about solutions instead of just being told how to accomplish a task. The kits will be a great addition to the classroom lessons.
