Hands-On Mathematicians!

My Project

The students in my classroom missed a significant amount of opportunities for hands-on learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. About half of my students need extra support with understanding concepts of place value. The base ten blocks will allow students to physically see and touch the values of numbers to help them succeed with addition and subtraction.

Having hands-on materials makes all the difference when teaching challenging mathematical concepts to students.

When third graders are introduced to fractions, having the actual bars to compare sizes, break apart, and physically interact with helps them grasp this idea. When students draw their own or try to use computers to help learn fraction concepts, they often struggle to maintain the correct sizes and therefore interrupt their understanding.
