Last year was my first year teaching at Luxmanor Elementary, as well as teaching a self-contained community- based classroom. What a great experience and an exciting journey! To say that I was lost in the beginning of the school year is to say nothing! But when my students learned and retained some new skills such as feeding themselves or sorting objects by color, I felt so accomplished!
Most of my students are non verbal and rely on technology to communicate and express their feelings!
My students are auditory and kinesthetic learners. They love listening to music, or playing with toys! We use a lot of manipulatives and toys to make learning fun and accessible for them! One of my students is obsessed with any battery operated toys, but his favorite one is a vacuum!
My Project
We are a self- contained, fun-loving, sweet little group of kindergartners and first-graders! As most of my students are kinesthetic and visual learners, the supplies will help them to learn the material in a fun and engaging way! Students in my class are working on learning colors, shapes, sorting and easy patterns, that is why new materials will come in handy. In order to keep math lessons fun and engaging, I need to use various types of manipulatives for students to remain motivated and focused. We are doing morning routine daily, where we discuss weather, days of the week, dates, etc , and we are using individual binders for it this year, but would like to try out the giant calendar next year to change out the routine.
