Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a wonderful group of students in a high poverty neighborhood. The children I teach have the same drive to learn as students in more affluent neighborhoods.
I have been teaching in this same neighborhood for ten years and for the past ten years, I have seen parents struggle to buy basic supplies for their children.
They often have to choose whether to buy school supplies or food. Needless to say, the parents chose to buy food. A lack of supplies can really hurt a student's self-esteem.
My Project
This year, I have the pleasure of teaching in an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom and I have an amazing group of students. They are able to work well in groups and guide each other when solving math problems.
This year, I have noticed that my students retain the math concepts that were taught when they have hands-on manipulatives to use during their independent tasks.
My students will use the ETA Daily Math Fluency kits to help them gain a better understanding of the mathematical concepts that have been taught. These materials will be used on a daily basis during small group instruction. These manipulatives will ensure that my students will be successful in math!
