Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 3rd grade teacher in East Palo Alto, CA. My school is a Title One school with close to 90% of our students qualifying for the free or reduced lunch program.
I am hoping to receive resources that will further my students understanding of decimals, fractions, and geometry. I believe each of my students can be successful if given the right instruction and tools. This can often be challenging in my classroom because 75% of my students are second language learners. I have found that the key in math is using as many manipulatives and visual aids as I can. When students can visualize, touch, and feel things they develop a better understand of a subject than when they just listen to me give a lecture. Plus being active in math is a fun way to learn!
Decimals, fractions, and geometry manipulatives is my focus because my students are having difficulty mastering all the California standards in those areas. With a few more tools I feel confident they can master them by the end of the year! I am asking for geometry overheads, a geometry activity kit, fraction flip books and magnets, decimal practice boards, and equivalency sliders.
