My students are diverse and come from many different cultures, backgrounds, and environments. My classroom is the only Transitional Kindergarten classroom at our school, and a few of the students began in the preschool program on campus as well.
They are Transitional Kindergarteners, and they are truly engaged when learning through hands on experiences and play.
If it's in the hand, it's in the brain. Many of the students enjoy playing with manipulative and building blocks. They are very creative and enjoy hands on activities and projects in order to express their creativity.
My Project
I am a first year transitional kindergarten teacher. I previously taught preschool for 5 years. I was lucky enough to be given a lot of supplies, but I still need a few more things in order to give my students the best learning experience, not just this school year, but for many more school years to come.
These materials will help fill my classroom and give my students the hands on creative experience they need.
I want to implement hands on tools, such as Rekenreks, to develop mathematical concepts and understanding. Transitional Kindergarten students learn through hands on experiences, so I wanted my students to have access to manipulative and math games to develop the Common Core kindergarten standards and math practice standards.
