Did you ever struggle learning to count, tell time, or do simple addition? My students are the ones who struggle with these basic skills.
As a Title I teacher I work solely with the students who seem to be left in the dust each time the class moves on to a new topic.
These kindergarten and first grade students are eager to learn and give it their all everyday, but still they need a little extra support. Our school is a high performing inner city school in Pennsylvania. These students want to keep up with their classmates, and with a little help will be back on track.
My Project
I am requesting math manipulatives and visuals that will give my students a little extra help in learning the material they struggle with. Math counters can be used in multiple ways. As students learn to create patterns they can use the colors and sizes to make and extend patterns. Suddenly it is no longer just a question on a paper but a meaningful experience. Like wise the counters can help students bring to life addition and subtraction problems, and learn to count. Learning to tell time and count money is so much more meaningful when the tools are in your hands.
The students who struggle with these concepts learn them better with manipulatives in their hands.
I have the unique advantage of working with students in small groups, and also in their classroom. These supplies would be available to the students who need them most in both settings.
