Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fifth grade math and science at a Springfield, Massachusetts public school. I have two different classes of each subject that I teach, reaching fifty students a day. My students are AMAZING! They are from low-income families and are all eligible for free lunch. I want to instill a love of math inquiry based hands on learning.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
My Project
Math matters in 2020! I would like to provide my students with hands-on materials that make learning math FUN and interesting. Using math manipulatives and games allow students to make real world connections and bring math to life! I would like to place a math manipulative or game in each student's hand and let the exploration begin. The donations to this project will help students improve their number sense while making math lessons exciting, hands-on, and interactive. These experiences will create a foundation for future learning and allow my students the tools that they need to meet grade level standards.
