Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students think of the Math Lab not as a place they go because they struggle with math, but as a place to explore numbers and engage in mathematical conversations! We engage in activities that improve math skills and build my students' math self concept.
I am a K-5 math interventionist in a Title 1 school.
The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic homes and English is the second language for many, yet they are enthusiastic students and hungry for learning! We work to create a family environment on our campus and to cultivate a college bound culture in our students. Teachers, support staff, and parents work together to develop each and every one of our students to his or her full potential.
My Project
Students learn math best through hands-on experiences and activities that are highly engaging make math interesting, rather than intimidating. Counting and place value are two foundational skills, and these materials will help my struggling students gain the understanding they need to succeed with grade level skills.
I want my students to be happy, confident mathematicians ready to take on the challenges of their grade level courses.
Many of my students have struggled for years and have very low self-confidence, not only academically, but personally. These materials can help boost my students' understanding and help them gain confidence in their mathematical abilities.
