Do you understand the difference between one ounce and one pound or ten yards and ten meters without actually using the correct tools to help you?
Our school is a public school and we have 24 students in our third grade class.
These students enjoy hands-on materials and many are visual and tactile learners. They are looking forward to learning new topics like multiplication, division, measurement and geometry.
My Project
How do we learn best? We learn best by feeling and doing. In our curriculum each student must understand the various ways to measure distance, liquid and mass. We will use the metric and customary weight scale to determine which objects weigh an ounce, a pound and what could weigh a kilogram. The measuring tapes will help students to find objects that are a cm, m and km as well as a foot, yard and mile. Using our requested items will allow these students to develop strong concrete knowledge about measurement.
We've also requested a few reading materials because better readers make better mathematicians.
Third grade is a wonderful year to begin their journey into more complex types of math.
Addition and Subtraction are the beginning building blocks. Now is the time to add a few more blocks onto their math base. Please donate so they can have the best start possible--one with hands-on learning and real understanding.
