My students are amazing Alaskan kids with fun and adventurous spirits! We try to have as much outdoor education as Mother Nature allows, and when we are inside, our school has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Our school is near a military base and our population reflects that, over 50% of my students are Military kids. We are happy to have them while they are here and sad to see these families move on to their next assignment. The reason my kids are so special is all the life experiences they have had and are able to share. We have students that have lived in Alaskan villages, various countries around the world, and drive from across town.
My students are high achieving, energetic learners!
They love to lay on the floor together to complete projects, collaborate during science, and partner read stories. They are authors that like to create books with their original stories and then publish them to share. They are scientists that rise to every STEM challenge, and learn from our mistakes. We work on our growth mindset daily and remind ourselves that we can do a lot, and some things we can’t do YET.
My Project
Math is more meaningful when you can demonstrate understanding with manipulatives. Using these supplies, my students will be able to expand their learning daily by constructing their knowledge. Practicing addition and subtraction facts will be done using the folder games and the ten frames will be useful when making a ten. Plus, giant floor puzzles are a perfect way to work with other classmates during an inside recess! It is fun to watch them work together to finish a large three foot puzzle!
The folder games will be used daily for my fast finishers.
It will be a quick and easy way for kids to continue practicing what they know and venturing into enrichment areas. I can work with small groups knowing that my fast finishers have valuable activities to complete.
