My students walk into the classroom every morning with an energetic greeting, ready to learn! I always encourage them to be the best they can and for many, my encouragement is all they hear.
I teach at a Title I school in north Alabama.
Over 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast. We have a program called "Nourish One Child" in our community that provides bags of weekend food to many of my students. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
Our school prides itself on being "The Best in Town" and if you ask any student here, "Who's the Best?" You will always hear a very enthusiastic cheer for our school!
My Project
These materials will make a difference in students' learning by giving them hands-on opportunities to explore numbers and number concepts in independent learning centers. One item, the number rockets, makes it fun to match numbers to sets of objects and number words. The counting cars will give my students a chance to match a set of objects to a numeral. Build-a-number houses are a great way to practice additions skills because they have to choose two numbers for the "house" that equal the number on the "roof" to make a house complete. The number robots are fun for the kids to "play" with while learning numbers. They will also be able to go fishing for numbers with the magnetic numbers and fishing poles. All of these activities allow more exposure to numbers and counting.
They’ll be having so much fun with these “toys” they won't even realize they're learning!
What better way to learn than through play.
I want to incorporate more individualized learning in my classroom through small group math. These math games and manipulatives will allow my students to work independently in centers while I pull small groups of students to work with them more on their specific needs. By working in small groups with students I will be able to better meet their learning needs because not everyone is on the same level and need to work on the same concepts. This is my purpose as a teacher-to recognize what my students need and meet those needs!
