I teach 5th grade in Burlington, North Carolina. The school that I teach at has a large population of students who receive free and reduced-price lunch. We reside in a small town and have over a handful of students that come from all over the world. My students are at a perfect age to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
My students are creative, curious, innovative and eager to learn.
Their enthusiasm for learning is exactly what makes me want to provide them with more resources to them that will allow them to grow into the best possible version of themselves. I am confident that my students are going to achieve amazing things and I am excited to watch them succeed!
My Project
My students learn best when they're having fun! With the resources I've requested, my students will have multiple opportunities for hands-on practice and application of our math and science curriculum.
My goal is to have my students more engaged and to foster a love for learning in the subjects of math and science!
I am asking for science lab resources, such as goggles, flashlights, magnets, beakers, magnifying glasses and a microscope, to engage the students in their science explorations. My project includes other science materials such as magnets, weather kits and force and motion kits to help students master the difficult science standards we do in fifth grade. In addition to the above materials, I'm also asking for a couple of science reading materials to help my students connect what they're learning in class to the real world and to scientists that have studied these concepts.
For math, I am asking for math operations dice, fraction dice, a place value chart and a math fact game. My hopes is that this will allow students to grow with the difficult math standards that sometimes challenge them throughout the year!
