This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come mostly from low-income single-parent households. Some of these households have more than one family living under one roof. Because of these disadvantages, I try to make sure each student takes advantage of the knowledge they gain from each and every day of class. A lot of the students I teach are below grade level and are struggling readers. This causes issues in the classroom when you have 25% of the class on grade level and the other 75% below.
My Project
My students will use the colored paper, card stock, crayons, and markers to complete various hands-on activities that go along with the lesson being taught. The hands-on projects/activities will actively engage students that are tactile.
Having hands-on activities are especially important in the classroom because it allows students to engage in kinesthetic learning.
Studies have shown that kinesthetic learning, where a student carries out physical activities rather than listening to a lecture, is the most popular type of learning with students. It allows students to experiment with trial and error, learn from their mistakes, and understand the potential gaps between theory and practice. It also provides educators with a unique opportunity to enrich the minds of their students in new and engaging ways.
