I teach a diverse group of Kindergarten students who come from a variety of backgrounds. My students are very excited to be able to attend school face to face during such a trying time. Many have not been able to be around peers and are experiencing school for the very first time. We are currently shifting between virtual, 50 percent attendance and 100 percent attendance based on Covid numbers.
My Project
Due to the constantly shifting plans for how to handle school during the rising Covid numbers and the many restrictions in place when students are face to face, my class is in need of hands on materials to help learn letters and numbers. With the materials I have requested, I will be able to give my students the opportunity to hold and maniulate letters and nubmers in different ways.
The materials requested will help differentiate my instruction as students will have their own manipulatives and activities and lessons can be developed to meet individual needs.
Students can use the letter magnets to work on letter identification, sound recognition and word building. The number magnets can be used to help students recognize nubmers and to enhance many other math lessons.
The number magnet game would give a rare opportunity to offer an engaging activity during a time when students have to remain seated most of the time. I can choose 3 students to work with the magnet game, social distance the students using the game and then sanitize so a different group can use the game on another day. The restrictions placed on a Kindergarten class have been many however the requested materials will give students an opportunity to engage in their learning using hands on manipulatives.
