This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Science rules!" is what Bill Nye tells us in his DVD's, but unfortunately the only lab experiences they have gotten to see are shown to them on TV. I want my students to do their OWN experiments in front of them and be able to participate in a Science Fair.
I set up our school's Science and Math Lab.
I noticed that while the school did have some FOSS kits. We are missing some much needed Science materials. Please support my DonorsChoose Project as it will benefit the entire school. My students come from in a high poverty areas in Memphis (over 90% are on free lunch). I have seen such hard working teachers and staff who care about the entire well being of each and EVERY student. It is heartwarming and delightful to go into work EVERY day and know that I am needed and loved by all at my school. I know that VERY few working adults have such a wonderful opportunity. I thank God everyday for this blessing. It is not easy (by any means), but where you have a heart in what you do you WILL be successful!
My Project
I could never imagine teaching in a school that students could not participate in science fairs because, 1st, they have never done it before, but more importantly you are lacking basic resources to even perform an experiment. These students LIGHT up with enthusiasm and excitement when we preform our science experiments. I have found myself pulling up interactive websites because we don't have the materials to actually perform an experiment. You can help! I have such a passion for teaching my remarkably motivated students. I have enthusiasm, compassion, and a doer spirit that I feel makes me successful as a teacher in a high poverty classroom. I have taught 4th grade for four years, so I know what they have to know from 3rd and 5th. I am able to utilize materials to get the MOST out of lessons. Limited resources? Well, I do LARGE groups for one experiment.
Memphis education system is one that NEEDS help.
Our charter school is providing all we can with our limited resources and is extremely successful. We have been a model for other charter schools to model. We have dynamic teachers who do the VERY best with what we have. Your donation to buy these materials will make a huge impact and I hope that you will be able to visit and see your donation make such a difference in SO many lives.
