My students need hands on learning materials to extend their learning of the world, various animals life cycles and anatomy, as well as, ways to organization learning tools efficiently to make them easier to use independently.
My students are 1st and 2nd graders that are learning within a Montessori environment. They are self motivated learners who are eager to get their hands on quality materials to learn new concepts. The learning materials are displayed on accessible shelves, fostering independence as students go about their daily work. The concrete materials provide passages to abstraction, and introduce concepts that become increasingly complex. Each student has their own work plan, ensuring that the level of challenge meets their individual needs. In this safe and empowering environment, students find pure joy in learning!
My Project
Welcome to our classroom, full of eager students excited to learn new things, and shelves ready for materials they can get their hands on! The learning materials such the life cycles, animal figurines, and the 4D anatomy materials will compliment the 3-part cards we have for living things such as amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish, and insects. The life cycle charts will work as a control of error as the students manipulate and investigate the way living things grow! In addition, the parts of speech books will be a fun and engaging way to extend their learning through literacy. These books will compliment our grammar works nicely!
The products I selected will be used as tools for discovery, growth, and development.
Additionally, they will support responsible interactive learning and exploration. The children will build a solid foundation through concrete learning of concepts that become increasingly complex. In The Secret of Childhood, Montessori wrote that the human hand… “not only allows the mind to reveal itself but enables the whole being to enter into special relationships with its environment.”
The organization products such as the 4x6 photo holders, will help keep 3-part cards separated, organized, and easy to access as needed. The black magazine boxes will give each student an area to keep their work binder, work plan folder, and spirals in a centralized, easy to find location to maintain an uncluttered learning environment. The black file sorters are an efficient way to organize task cards on each self so the students can independently locate them they follow their work plan. Lastly, the large dry erase board calendar will be used and looked at each day as the students keep up with deadlines on their individualized work plan, stay updated on what is to come, and practice using a monthly calendar.
