Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day the students at our little school are so excited and eager to come to school. They come through the doors with big smiles and joy on their faces. My students come from many diverse backgrounds! We have English speaking students and many non-English speaking students from many countries. There are many languages spoken in our school and learning English can be a challenge. Sometimes the only English they hear and speak is when they come to school. We are almost 80% ESL (English as a second language). Our school is right in the middle of a low-income housing complex and serves students from two other low-income housing projects as well. We are over 90% free and reduced price lunch! Many times the educational experiences we provide are the only ones these students will ever experience. The eagerness these students have is so exciting to see.
My Project
The use of VersaTiles will become a daily activity in my reading centers. We have used VersaTiles for math and the students loved them! I would love to use the literacy program so that my students will be just as excited to read! The VersaTiles will be used for independent practice. They will allow students to check their own work. Students will be able to check their answers and get instant feedback even when the teacher is busy.
VersaTiles will allow my students to be engaged in their learning and the VersaTiles Literacy Kit for Kids Grade 1-6 will allow me to differentiate for the needs of my diverse students.
By donating to our project, you will help to improve students' literacy skills. Students can always use extra reading practice and using VersaTiles will be a fun way to enhance our reading curriculum.
