Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very curious and are full of questions. We strive every day to learn something new. My kindergarten students are very curious about the world around them, and I want to give them those hands-on chances to learn as much as possible.
My students live in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada.
As a teacher at a low income/low socioeconomic status Title I elementary school, I try to give my students as many hands-on learning activities as possible. My students don't get the opportunity to explore much of the world around them.
All of the students school-wide receive free breakfast and lunch, and 30% of the students are homeless. My school's goal is to provide students with the best learning education while teaching them how to be the best people they can be. One small act at a time, we can change our world.
My Project
It is important for kindergarten students to learn how to work cooperatively. Kindergarten students spend about half of their day working in small groups with other students, independently.
These reading activities will allow students to build skills of working together while learning their alphabet and critical thinking skills.
It is important for students to learn their alphabet quickly so that they are prepared to start reading. The activities will help students build deeper than surface level thinking skills that do not come naturally to most young children.
Many of the centers are literacy based activities that will help my students learn their alphabet. The Alphabet Learning Locks and the Trace and Write Alphabet Center will give students who are not proficient at writing the opportunity to explore and build letters. The Alphabet Rockets will help students recognize letters and match uppercase with lowercase. The Double-sided Magnetic Letter Tiles will help students who are ready to write. These activities will allow students to build up fine motor skills that are necessary for good penmanship.
Kindergarten students are sponges and I want to help them soak up as much learning as possible.
