Once again, we have an amazing group of 2nd grade learners! Every morning I wake up looking forward to seeing each and every one of their beautiful faces! They are truly the reason I love my job. We are readers, mathematicians, authors, scientists, problem solvers, important parts of our community, great friends, and so much more! We love hands on learning that make every lesson so much more meaningful and are eager to learn about the world we live in.
My Project
Students will use clay, stamps, and letter tiles to build, form, sort and create words throughout different activities that teach kids to understand how words work.
Through hands on word work stations, students don't just learn words, they learn about words.
This gives them a deeper understanding that moves away from simple memorization to the development of skills that can then be applied to the reading and spelling of unknown words.
I also love re-purposing everyday games to teach reading comprehension skills and strategies such as inferencing, cause and effect, visualizing, compare and contrast, etc. The use of buzzers promote active engagement in classroom discussions and opportunities for teamwork and risk taking.
