My Students

My school is a Title 1 school located in Los Angeles, California. I specifically teach Kindergarten and First Grade, and my students range from the ages of five to seven. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities, yet they all share an excitement for school.

My Project

These materials will be used to start a cooperative garden outside of our classroom. Where we will plant and maintain a variety of plants and vegetables. Starting this garden will provide a new opportunity for several of my students who do not the opportunity at home. My students will learn different types of flowers and what it takes for plants to grow and thrive.

Hands on exploring provides students with the opportunity to take ownership of their learning.

As we grow fruits and vegetable I will expose my students to the different stages of the life cycle of plants. This also moves learning from within the classroom to outside, which gives the students skills they can take home.
