I have 28 students this year. I want my students totally involved and excited about their learning. They are a very active group and are best engaged when things are interactive.
I love seeing and feeling my students excitement each day as they beg to know what we are doing in science.
They walk around the science table in curious anticipation. I feel the same enthusiasm as they continually ask, "When are we going to read Narnia (or Harry Potter).
A hand-on approach to learning has made all the difference for my students. It keeps learning purposeful, enjoyable and engaging for them.
My Project
Hands-on science is a great way to get kids hooked into learning. It is so engaging. It brings my kids back every day wide eyed and excited to see what we will be doing that day in science. One of the finest and most engaging science units in 4th grade is Rocks and Fossils. My class and I gather around the rock and fossil samples, I have, as we study them. We classify, test, explore and everything else you can image with those samples. Imagine how wonderful it would be to actually have complete small group sets of rocks and fossils the kids could study, instead of a few class samples.

" That was one of the kind feedbacks I got back from parents; after I got my bouncy group of 4th graders settled into a good read with part one in both the Harry Potter and Narnia series. Each child hand held a copy of the book as we read together. They enjoyed the journey through both books and are hooked. My students have begged me to read on in both series with them. I would love to take my class back to Hogwarts and Narnia in part 2 of each book. They are reads that we do whole class in a way that students couldn't do on their own. It requires everyone having their own copy of the book.
