My Students

I teach a special education self-contained classroom. I have nine students this year with varying cognitive, emotional/behavioral and developmental disabilities. My students have a lot of obstacles to overcome in life but they don't show it! While being able to teach students with such varying abilities can be challenging, always being able to focus on the positive is key. My students learn differently and need many materials that are modified and teacher created.

While my students have many educational difficulties, they may have many obstacles to deal with at home as well.

Our school is a Title I school, located in an inner city with 80% of our school on free and reduced lunch. The last thing my students need is to go without something that will better to help them learn.

My Project

Working with students with disabilities have the ability to strive with the proper materials. My students may learn using alternative and non-traditional methods but it doesn't mean they cannot learn.

Technology has been a game changer for my students and my teaching.

Technology has given my students when they don't have a traditional voice, it allows them to access their environment when their mobility may hinder them and technology has allowed them to express their academic knowledge.

The OSMO adapter for the Kindle Fire will give my students a chance to show their knowledge and to learn with materials that motivate them and challenge them.
